Editorial Guidelines
Land record portals change often, use different terms in every state, and carry real consequences if the information is wrong. This page explains how a BhumiNow guide is researched, checked and kept up to date, so you can judge for yourself whether to trust it.

BhumiNow.com is not a government website, and we don’t want anyone to mistake it for one. Official land record portals in India, such as Bhulekh, Bhu Naksha, Apna Khata and Jharbhoomi, are often confusing and use terms that change from state to state. Our job is to explain them accurately, without cutting corners.
That only works if our information is reliable. This page sets out the standards every guide on this site is expected to meet, and gives you a way to hold us to them.
Our core principles
Official sources only
Every claim traces back to a genuine state land record portal or an official government notification, not a forum post, a third-party aggregator or an assumption.
We test it ourselves
Before a step is published, we perform it on the live portal. We don’t describe a process we haven’t personally walked through.
Screenshots where they help
Wherever possible, guides include screenshots of the actual portal screens, so you can compare what you see with what we describe.
No guessing, no filler
If we cannot verify a detail, we leave it out or say so. We would rather publish a shorter, accurate guide than a complete-looking one padded with assumptions.
How a guide gets made
Every guide goes through the same steps before it is published.

Identify the official portal
We confirm the correct, currently active government portal for that state’s land records, checked against the state revenue department’s own references and not just a search result that may point to an unofficial copy.

Walk through the process live
We perform the actual task, such as searching a khasra number or downloading a khatauni, on the live portal, noting every field, dropdown and error message as it appears.

Capture the steps
Screenshots are taken at the important steps. Where a portal often changes its layout, we note the date so readers can judge if the screen is still current.

Explain the terms
We explain revenue department terms (khasra, khatauni, jamabandi, dakhil-kharij and their state-specific versions) where they first appear, without losing the detail needed to finish the task.

Final check before publishing
Before publishing, we read the guide against the live portal once more, looking for steps that were paraphrased inaccurately or details that no longer match what the portal shows.
What we never do: publish a guide based on a portal’s old design, assume one state’s process is identical to another’s, or copy a description from another website without checking it ourselves.
Keeping guides current
Government land record portals are redesigned, renamed and moved from time to time. A guide that was accurate six months ago can be wrong today, so we treat updating as an ongoing job, not a one-time task.
Scheduled reviews: Every published guide is rechecked against its live portal at least every month, and each guide shows the date it was last updated. Guides that get the most visitors may be reviewed more often.
Triggered reviews: When we learn that a state has changed its portal, address or process, whether through our own checks, a reader report or an official notice, the affected guide is reviewed ahead of its normal schedule.
Corrections policy
Mistakes happen, especially on a subject spread across so many states and portals. What matters is how quickly and openly we fix them.

Independence and affiliation
BhumiNow.com is not affiliated with any government body, state revenue department or official land records portal. We do not process applications, accept documents or charge any fee for information. Those happen only on the state’s official portal or at the relevant government office.
We do not accept payment from any state government, portal operator or third party in exchange for favourable coverage, and we have no commercial relationship with any of the portals we write about. If we ever show ads, they will not influence what we write.
Who writes these guides
Found something inaccurate or outdated? If a step doesn’t match what you see on the portal, a link is broken, or a state’s process has changed, contact us and we will verify and correct it.
